Geographical Information Systems

How can GIS benefit your community or organisation?

Geographical Information System (GIS) is a new service offered by Groundwork NI. This computer based mapping and information system allows information to be easily visualised and understood, benefiting communities and organisations by:

  • Exploring issues within their local area
  • Detailed community mapping – e.g. anti social behaviour, derelict space, graffiti
  • Helping in both short and long term planning for an area
  • Acting as an evaluation method by forming a baseline to measure progress over time
  • Deliver value for money solutions by reducing risk, improving efficiency & supporting decision making
  • Targeting resources into the right areas
  • Identifying and improving local service delivery
  • Aiding discussion and/or contentious dialogue
  • Highlighting key issues and connectivity between different issues
  • Aiding funding applications by demonstrating a visible, easily understood overview of need
  • Identifying opportunities to create/enhance positive issues & resolve/reduce negative issues
  • Exploring issues on a strategic level

Our experienced GIS team are on hand to support your group or organisation, providing valuable information for projects, action plans or funding applications. From producing maps and reports to complex analysis and modelling, we can tailor a range of outputs depending on your specific needs.
